Bureaucracies are evil

The latest in my financial aid saga:
My account stil shows no financial aid credited, except for the positive Pell grant. So I spend hours trying to reach someone in the FA office, getting shuffled from one representative to another to yet another person's voice mail. Somewhere around 3 PM, I reach the end of my patience, and plead not be transferred to voicemail. Some shred of decency surfaces in the representative, and she physically tracks down my personal "counselor" (I need no counsel, I need action!) and claims that she will call me "right back". Only 20 minutes later, I actually get a call back!
It turns out that a notice to provide documentation was supposed to have been sent at the beginning of December. It wasn't sent. OOPS. So, last week, based on my non-compliance with the imaginary request, my Pell grant from LAST semester was retroactively declined. This explains the positive entry for the Pell grant. Since I was able to justify my non-compliance by having never received the request, because it was never sent, the counselor is asking the director to re-approve the Pell for both last semester and this one. My loans will be released. My classes will not be cancelled. I will get my refund check to pay for books by the end of the second week of classes. After finding out this counselor is not the same one that screwed up my aid previously, I apologized for my snotty voicemail tone, and told the horror story of incompetant asshole that was previously assigned to me. We decided that if I ever need to change any information, I would call her, make an appointment to give the info directly into her hands, and she would immediately process it. She apologized profusly and repeatedly. I thanked her.
Now, I have to check on Tuesday to see if any of the aid is really credited. At least my classes won't be cancelled.
Now all we have to deal with is the other chaos going on.
