Aug. 22nd, 2006 07:50 pmMy Best Birthday Present Ever, the Tempest machine John got me when Midtown Studios closed, is being tweaked and will soon be working again in the line of 80's classic video machines at Lava Room Recording. I played it once (OK, a couple dozen games, but during one afternoon, and Mike [one of the owners] wiped me right off the high score list immediately) before it's motherboard was taken out again for making like brand new by an insane craftsman. The fangirl in me must brag that this very machine was used by Trent Reznor while recording "Pretty Hate Things."
Las Vegas contains a Pinball Hall of Fame and Museum in a strip mall. You can see over 200 working pinball machines, and best of all, play them. It's run as a 501c3, and all the profits go to the Salvation Army. There's an article about it here. We are definitely going here on our next Vegas trip.
My hair is dark again. See icon.
Also, tomorrow is Grad School Orientation, which includes a free lunch, and the annual bout of "Fight For Financial Aid!" and the accompanying headaches and increased hate for bureaucracy that it engenders. TANSTAAFL. And also, start the paperwork for (insert drum roll) - the Grad Assistantship! I get my Master's for free, and a paid part-time job as a videographer/whatever for CSU. Two more years, John, just two more years...unless I can get a Fellowship for a Ph.D!
